Cameroon’s conditions vary significantly by region and season. The coastal and lowland rainforest areas are warm and humid throughout the year, while the Grassfields region is generally cooler. In rural areas, roads can be rough and infrastructure in smaller towns is basic, so a degree of patience and flexibility is recommended.
The local currency is the Central African CFA Franc (XAF). Cash is widely used, particularly in smaller towns, although major hotels in Douala and Yaoundé may accept credit cards. Bottled water is recommended throughout your stay, and tipping is customary but entirely at your discretion for guides and drivers.
We closely monitor the latest FCDO travel advice and will update travellers if any changes occur. At the time of writing, there are no warnings against travel to the regions included in our itineraries.
