Kosovo uses the Euro, and cash is widely useful in smaller towns and villages, though cards are accepted in Pristina and larger centres. Tap water is generally not recommended for drinking — bottled water is cheap and readily available. The road network in rural areas, particularly around the Rugova Valley and Sharr Mountains, can be rough, and journey times may be longer than distances suggest. Tipping is not obligatory but is appreciated; a modest amount for guides and drivers is the local norm. Kosovo is a warm, hospitable country and patience and good humour go a long way, particularly in smaller communities still developing their tourism infrastructure.
