What travellers say about us

Independently verified reviews from travellers who joined Legends of the Silk Road — The Five Stans. Rated 4.9 Excellent on AITO by 250+ reviewers.

I booked this as a solo traveller and had nothing to worry about. Our guide was fantastic, the group of 10 gelled from day one, and the Tien Shan mountains in Kyrgyzstan were a surprise highlight I hadn't expected. Recommend without hesitation.

We thoroughly enjoyed every day of this tour. Beautiful architecture in Bukhara and Samarkand, warm hospitality everywhere, and a really well paced itinerary considering the distances. Already looking at our next UD trip.

A brilliant experience from start to finish. The five countries could not be more different and UD managed the transitions brilliantly. Staying at the Darvaza Gas Crater was the highlight of the trip, and the small group made everything feel personal.

Guiding was very good throughout, hotels were well located and the itinerary gave us a real sense of each country. Samarkand in particular blew me away. This was my third trip with UD and it won't be the last.

An amazing trip! We had the most amazing holiday — over two weeks we had a taste of the cities, the culture, the mountains, a safari, and time at the beach. Our driver/guide made the whole trip very relaxing, and we were welcomed warmly by everyone we met, enjoying fabulous food and drink along the way. Undiscovered Destinations planned a really amazing itinerary for us with great hotels, a fabulous guide/driver, and interesting places to visit — they took great care to ensure we had an excellent holiday. We look forward to booking another holiday with them in the future. Thank you, Mark!

This adventure was always going to be very full-on, which is how we like our trips. I didn't count on getting bronchitis and ending up in hospital, however. The itinerary was quickly amended to avoid high-altitude destinations as much as possible while still making sure we had a chance to enjoy interesting experiences. While obviously sad to have missed some of the original sites, the revised itinerary was the only sensible option under the circumstances. I was extremely impressed with how Undiscovered Destinations and their local team handled the situation — taking the stress out of it, smoothing the way, rearranging the itinerary and booking new hotels, translating for me with the medical staff, and making sure I always had transport, medicines and anything else I needed. Nothing was too much trouble, and they kept in touch with me, each other, and the insurance company throughout. I can't recommend them enough!

Grete

My wife and I had a wonderful tour with Undiscovered Destinations. We had a different guide at each stop, and all of them were friendly, cheerful and knowledgeable. The local people were welcoming, and we always felt safe and comfortable. The beaches were spectacularly beautiful and empty of people, with warm, clear water, and each stop had its own character — some we loved for their unspoiled scenery, others for their history and the warmth of the welcome. We took the opportunity to snorkel on one of the most pristine reefs we've experienced, swimming with sea turtles and enormous manta rays that came right up to us out of curiosity. A wonderful destination for nature lovers.

Uzbekistan Embraced

This journey through Uzbekistan offers an enriching exploration of some of Central Asia’s most evocative Silk Road cities, combined with moments of genuine cultural connection in rural mountain communities. Beginning in the atmospheric mud walled streets of Khiva, you follow the ancient caravan routes to the holy city of Bukhara and on to majestic Samarkand, where shimmering blue domes and monumental Islamic architecture create one of the most memorable cityscapes in the region. Along the way you visit traditional markets, historic fortresses and intricately tiled mausoleums, and you spend a night in a family owned guest house in the Nuratau Mountains where village life unfolds at a gentle pace. The adventure concludes in the modern capital of Tashkent where leafy boulevards, impressive museums and elegant metro stations provide a final contrast to the country’s ancient heritage. This itinerary offers a balanced blend of history, culture and everyday life, creating a vivid and rewarding introduction to Uzbekistan. Heart of the Silk Road

This tour concentrates the essence of Central Asia, visiting three now distinct states connected across the centuries by the Silk Road’s east west trading legacy. Important historic cities such as Tashkent, Dushanbe, and Ashgabat, join the fabled khanates of Bukhara and Khiva, and incredible archaeological sites such as Merv and Konye-Urgenche. The itinerary doesn’t aim to provide an in-depth exploration of Central Asia, but it does pack an incredible amount into a relatively short time, identifying a culturally rich and varied vein through neighbouring states that survived the wholesale homogenising of the Soviet period to emerge once again. If this is your first experience of Central Asia it won’t be your last.
