Begin in Algiers with a city drive revealing its blend of Berber, Arab and French colonial influences. Visit the iconic La Grande Poste, stroll through the UNESCO-listed Casbah and explore the Palais des Rais (Bastion 23), the last surviving quarter of the lower Casbah. In the afternoon, visit the Basilica of Notre Dame d'Afrique for panoramic views over the Bay of Algiers.
Explore Tipasa, a UNESCO coastal site preserving the legacy of Punic and Roman civilisations. The visit covers two archaeological parks and the Royal Mausoleum of Mauretania, with the ruins set against a backdrop of wildflowers and the Mediterranean coastline.

The itinerary was quickly amended to avoid high-altitude destinations as much as possible while still making sure we had a chance to enjoy interesting experiences. While obviously sad to have missed some of the original sites, the revised itinerary was the only sensible option under the circumstances. I was extremely impressed with how Undiscovered Destinations and their local team handled the situation — taking the stress out of it, smoothing the way, rearranging the itinerary and booking new hotels, translating for me with the medical staff, and making sure I always had transport, medicines and anything else I needed.
